Methanorms is a groundbreaking project under the Dutch Maritime Masterplan, designed to accelerate the transition to climate-neutral shipping. Led by Fugro, the project focuses on developing and demonstrating safe, cost-effective retrofit solutions that enable existing vessels to operate on methanol.
Our flagship initiative is the retrofit of the Fugro Galaxy, which will serve as a demonstration vessel for scalable dual-fuel technology. Operating first on 75% methanol and later on 97%, the Galaxy will generate invaluable data for validation and standardization.
Methanorms goes beyond a single retrofit. It lays the foundation for global adoption of methanol in shipping by:
Setting international safety standards.
Reducing retrofit costs by up to 40% compared with full engine replacement.
Providing STCW-aligned training for the maritime workforce.
Building a strong Dutch maritime ecosystem prepared for the energy transition.
Join us as we work to make methanol retrofit technology a proven, scalable, and globally recognized solution for sustainable shipping.
